ATTENTION LOCAL 306 MEMBERS!

We are coming into our election cycle soon.  Every member should participate to insure that our Union has the best leaders we can find among our members.

When you enter Local 306 membership, the term we use is “obligated” – as you become obligated to your Union.  Being an officer is a broader and deeper obligation.  If you are thinking of running for office, think also of that obligation and what it may mean as to the time and work you must devote to your fellow members.

If you are a member in name only, which is the same as carrying your union card as only a license to work, I urge you to learn of the issues that face us after 27 years of anti-union sentiment in Washington and anti-union court decisions handed down by judges mostly appointed by Republican administrations since 1980.

Employers know they have the upper hand.  Decisions by the National Labor Relations Board are so anti-union that unions will use any means necessary to avoid the Board.  It is in this environment that we must struggle to maintain some standard of living when employers believe in their bones that we do not deserve to make a living.

If you choose to run, know this is not a social club.  It is truly a struggle for worker dignity, security, and living wages.  You will be accountable to the members, whom you represent.

That said, Local 306 is a true democratic Union and your vote will count.  We will have a mail-in ballot which is still the most inclusive method of giving every member a voice.
